Dr. Majd has years of experience and can customize and create the orthodontic treatment approach that best fits each individual case and desired outcome. She has treated a large population of adult patients that were turned down by other orthodontists since their case could not be treated with clear braces or Invisalign. We are happy to share some of those cases with you during your visit. We are proud to offer the most versatile selection of high quality orthodontic treatment options and braces for adults, teenagers, and all lifestyles.
No matter what type you get, it is vital that you know how to adjust to life with braces so they can be as effective as possible. See detailed descriptions below of all the types of dental braces we offer in the Orange County area or schedule a consultation to get a recommendation on the best type of braces for you.
TRADITIONAL METAL BRACES
Traditional metal braces, made from high-grade stainless steel, are the most common type of braces used for both adults and children. Over time, they have progressed to become lighter, sturdier, and more comfortable than ever before. Brackets are attached to the teeth using orthodontic bonding materials, and wires are placed in the brackets and secured with small rubber ties.
With metal braces, you have the option of using clear, metallic, or colored elastics that can be changed at every appointment. Metal braces are less expensive than other kinds of braces and can be matched with different themes, occasions, or moods!
SELF-LIGATING BRACES (INCLUDING DAMON® BRACES)
Self-ligating braces have metal closures on each bracket that eliminates the need for having elastic ties. These braces can be metal or clear and typically look similar to traditional braces. With self-ligating braces, there is less friction between the wire and brackets which allows the teeth to move into their proper positions faster. Also, these braces do not require elastics, meaning fewer appointments and less friction on the teeth.
CLEAR (CERAMIC) BRACES
Ceramic braces function in the same way as traditional metal braces except they are clear, making them less visible than traditional braces. These braces are made of porcelain, which also means they are more fragile or likely to damage than traditional braces. These braces are a great option for adult patients and teenagers who have cosmetic concerns regarding their orthodontic treatment.
These braces function in the same way and deliver the same results as metal braces but require a higher level of oral hygiene to maintain and cost more due to the material, manufacturing, and aesthetic advantage.
CLEAR ALIGNERS (INVISALIGN®)
Clear aligners are made of comfortable, clear invisible trays resembling mouthguards that straighten your teeth. These aligners are custom fit to your mouth and can be removed at any time, allowing you to eat and drink what you want while achieving a healthier smile. Being able to remove the aligners makes it easier to maintain good oral hygiene – no more hassle of brushing around wires and brackets!
Another benefit to clear aligners is that they will not cause mouth abrasions during treatment since they aren’t made of metal. The downside to clear aligners is that the course of treatment may be longer than traditional metal braces, and if the aligners aren’t worn for 20+ hours a day, the teeth will not realign at all.
LINGUAL (INSIDE) BRACES
Lingual braces have brackets that are placed behind the teeth rather than in front, making them “invisible”. The entire appliance and brackets are completely customized to fit each patient’s mouth. These braces are a great option for models, actors/actresses, musicians who play wind instruments, and adult professionals. Lingual braces are more expensive and harder to adjust to initially, but they offer faster and more predictable results than clear aligners.
